Health bosses are warning people to protect themselves in the sun.
Portsmouth City Teaching Primary Care Trust is urging people to take simple precautions to avoid feeling unwell because of the heat.

Sunlovers are urged to wear loose, cool clothing, a sun hat and sunglasses, use a sunscreen with a protection fact
or of at least 15, and reapply it regularly.

People should try to stay in the shade between 11am and 3pm, especially if they have serious health problems such as a heart condition, drink at least two litres of water a day and avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks.

Dawn Saunders, consultant in public health at the trust, said: 'Here on the coast temperatures are expected to stay a little cooler than inland but that's no reason to be complacent. Some simple precautions can help stop you feeling uncomfortable or unwell as a result of the heat.

'If you do become unwell, remember that there are plenty of avenues to use and you should avoid going to the emergency department at Queen Alexandra Hospital unless it's a genuine emergency.'

'Instead, visit the St Mary's NHS Treatment Centre where you can get excellent treatment and advice for a range of minor injuries, or try your pharmacist, NHS Direct on 0845 4647 or NHS Direct Online at nhs.co.uk. You can also visit the PCT's website at portsmouthcitypct.nhs.uk to download further information on how to get the right treatment.
