The father of a soldier who was killed will this week fly to Croatia in his search for justice.
On Wednesday, Terry Jeans, 62, is due to fly out to the country where a judge is to announce the date for a retrial concerning his son's death.

The retrial comes 13 years after the murder of Private Simon Jeans in 1996.

Mr Jeans, of Charden Roa
d, Rowner, Gosport, was told in September that the judge due to preside over the retrial of Dejan Skaro, the only suspect in the killing of his son, had a backlog of cases and was too busy to schedule the retrial.

But now a new judge has been appointed to the case and is due to set a date for the long overdue retrial.

Pte Jeans died from a brain haemorrhage following an attack by 30 thugs in Croatia.

Skaro walked free in 2007 because there was not enough evidence to convict him of the murder of the 25-year-old.

But early last year it was revealed he was due to be hauled back into court to face murder charges after the Croatian Supreme Court ruled that medical evidence was incorrectly interpreted by the original trial judge.

It is hoped the two-day trial will go ahead before Christmas.
