Legendary Pompey fan John Westwood is to be hung in Southampton - but in the nicest possible way.
A two-metre portrait of the superfan is to be displayed at the city's art gallery - home of arch rivals Saints.

Artist Karl Rudziak, from Pembroke Road, Old Portsmouth, spent eight months painting the larger-than-life version of Mr Westwood.

And after being picked to hang at the National Portrait Gallery in London it will now go on tour as part of the prestigious BP Portrait Award.

Mr Westwood, from Petersfield, said: 'I just hope nothing happens to it, for Karl's sake, but for me it's a bit tongue-in-cheek - Pompey at Southampton - for me it's quite a nice little wind-up.'

The work will be displayed at the Southampton City Art Gallery in Commercial Road, Southampton, from tomorrow until November 22.

It actually looks a really good painting.

And as Southampton's Conservative Council have been flogging-off the city's works of art recently to pay the bills, I guess they need a new portrait or two to replace the Renoir's et al.

P.S.

Pompey fan John Westwood may not be the Mona Lisa but I guess he'll have the same smile now his portrait is hanging in Southampton's Art Gallery!

How strange! On the article where Hart claims that he is under no pressure, Slippery Slope claimed to be from Selsey and to be a Pompey fan!

Confused.com?

Does this men the great JW is changing allegiance or setting an example on how to recognize a true patriot.
The painting even looks like him, what a treat. Is that a trumpet I hear coming from the picture.
Wonder if the RM Music School could take him on for a week and turn him into a decent noise maker ?? Nearby fans would be eternally grateful.
