A university lecturer is appearing in the same room as students nearly 1,500 miles away.
Ken Heather, from the University of Portsmouth's Department of Economics, is teaching first year business students at the International University College in Sofia, Bulgaria, via an internet video-phone link.

He delivers his business administration and international finance and trade lectures at the university's e-learning studio in Portsmouth which are then transmitted live.

Ken is projected on to a large screen in a classroom in Bulgaria and students can speak down a microphone if they have questions.

Ken said: 'It is exciting to be remotely teaching our international students. We are on the edge of something experimental and I expect in ten years time it will be common for lecturers to deliver to audiences worldwide.'

The IUC has been delivering University of Portsmouth degrees to their students after a partnership was formed 16 years ago.
