Former Petersfield Town junior football player Calum Chambers was one of the winners at the recent East Hampshire Sports Awards.

The Arsenal player was named as joint-winner of the Sportsman of the Year category with talented cricketer Brad Taylor.

The awards recognised sporting achievements and the commitment of the people who make success possible, like coaches and officials.

Guest speaker at the event was Gosport-born Roger Black MBE, who spoke about his sporting career.

Councillor Julie Butler, said: ‘It’s great to have had so many nominations from such a wide range of sporting areas. It shows that everyone can find a sport that suits them and I hope these awards inspire others to get involved.’

East Hampshire District Council has launched an elite sports fund, which will provide grants for promising athletes of between £50 and £600 towards coaching, qualifications, clothing, equipment or travel.
