Double delight for Portchester care home at Best of Health Awards

Woodland Court care home in Portchester was the outstanding winner on an unforgettable night after its staff walked home with both the Care/Nursing Home of the Year award and the Compassion and Care award.

There were huge cheers at Portsmouth Guildhall for the care home with the staff picking up the night’s first and last award.

For the home’s deputy manager Charlotte Harman, it was a case of disbelief and immense pride for her staff and the home.

She told The News: ‘I really just can’t quite believe it.

‘I’m shaking as I’m just so shocked!

‘We never would have thought it would be possible that we would be going home with one let alone with two!

‘I’m just so happy and proud of all the staff.

‘People say to us that we are just like a family and that is the message that we want to put across.

‘We feel like a family with our residents and if they are saying the same thing then it makes the whole thing truly special.’

Ms Harman said: ‘I just want to say a massive thank you to the staff, our residents and all those who nominated us. It really means the world.’

The care home in Portchester Road provides residential, respite, day and dementia care.

Woodland Court received lots of nominations from residents across the Portsmouth and Fareham area.

It is very popular and well-regarded by its residents.

Its staff have been described as compassionate and ensuring that there is always things for residents to do such as bingo, films and music.

Ms Harman added: ‘All our staff work incredibly hard to provide the best possible living for the residents and what this shows us, is how much they appreciate that.

‘I am just so proud of my staff tonight as this was a real team effort and we have got one of the best teams around at Woodland Court.’

WHILE Woodland Court pocketed two awards on the night, the runner-up in one of their categories also picked up a gong.

In the category for Care/Nursing Home of the Year, The Thalassa Nursing Home in Alverstoke, Gosport, was awarded the runner-up.

The home in Western Way ensures its residents are happy in a lovely tidy care home and staff are welcoming to visitors, always putting the care of its residents first.

Also nominated in the category was the Fieldgate Nursing Home in Portsmouth Road, Horndean, Evendale Nursing Home in Silvester Road, Waterlooville and Woodlands Care Home in Lovedean Lane, Waterlooville.
