AN MP has praised the generosity of her constituents after a neighbourhood collection was held in aid of foodbank charities.

Fareham MP Suella Fernandes helped staff from Tesco Extra to provide collections from donors to go to charities The Trussell Trust and FareShare over the course of June 30 until July 2.

Miss Fernandes, who also provided food of her own to the cause, said: ‘It was great to be able to lend a hand with the collection in the Fareham store, and I congratulate Steve, Ashley and all the staff on their efforts to support this worldwide campaign.

‘It is a huge tribute to the generosity of people locally and across the country that so many meals have been provided as a result of these donations.’

Tesco held the collection at its stores nationwide, with millions of meals donated.
