TO many people, orchids are the most beautiful and delicate of all flowers.

And for the Wessex Orchid Society, growing the exotic flowers is a full-time affair.

Tomorrow the orchid enthusiasts will hold their autumn show at Portchester Community School.

John Dennis, a member of the society, said: ‘If you enjoy flowers this is a great opportunity to learn about the beautiful and sometimes bizarre world of orchid flowers and their cultivation.

‘For people who have not seen much of orchids, the range and variety of our unique flowers is just indescribable.

‘I had always thought orchids were too exotic to grow but my wife gave my a moth orchid and I completely changed my mind.

‘I now have hundreds of them

‘Anyone who has an interest in flowers should come along and perhaps consider joining our society, to continue learning about these fascinating plants.’

Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Connie Hockley, will present trophies to the winning growers.

The show runs from 11am until 4.30pm.

Admission is £2 and there is free parking, plants to buy, a raffle, tombola and refreshments.

There will be re-potting demonstrations and a cake sale.
