Firefighters in Fareham have been learning how to deal with high speed crashes - with the help of a big digger truck.

Earlier this week the crews ran a crash simulation in which firefighters could learn how best to deal with casualties in a high pressure environment.

Firefighter Ian Harper said: ‘We had the cars crushed by a digger truck to simulate a high speed crash.

‘We are continuously training for an array of scenarios and situations involving road traffic collisions.

‘This was carried out in slow time so the firefighters were able to stop at each stage and reflect on the best way to do things and how the process could be improved.

‘Being able to practice a scenario like this and discuss it at every stage was extremely useful.

‘We have a strong learning culture and are always striving to be the best.’
