A COUNCILLOR says that a planning application for a new 6,000-home town is the largest ever submitted in the county.

Buckland Development Ltd, one of the major landowners of the new town of Welborne, finally submitted outline plans for the development to Fareham Borough Council this month.

The application, which came to the local authority in dozens of folders, is the largest the council has ever received and, according to its leader, Councillor Sean Woodward, could be the biggest application in Hampshire’s history.

He said: ‘It is certainly the biggest application that I’ve ever seen in my 31 years as a councillor and I think you will be hard pressed to find one bigger in the whole of the county, maybe even on the south coast.’

The application was finally submitted after nearly two years of delays.

Despite the application being submitted, the council is to continue preparing for a compulsory purchase order of the land needed for the development.

Community Action Team (CAT) meetings are set to take place with residents next month where the application will be addressed.

Dates of the meetings are unconfirmed, but the locations for the CATs are set to be at Ferneham Hall in Fareham, Funtley Social Club and Knowle Community Centre.

Timings and dates of the meetings are to be announced in due course.
