DETECTIVES are investigating after cyclists were ‘punched’ while riding along a countryside road.

Michael Stevens and Mike Williams of Fareham Wheelers Cycling club say they were assaulted while on Hoad’s Hill between Wickham and Fareham on Sunday.

The incident is one of five reports that the police are investigating.

Writing on the club’s Facebook page, Mr Stevens said: ‘Riders beware on the way to club run this morning both myself and Mike Williams were punched by a passenger in a white van.

‘He was wearing a red shirt. We were about a minute apart on the road. Luckily neither of us were injured.’

A spokesman from Hampshire Police said: ‘Between 8.30am and 8.40am on Sunday, there were reports of cyclists and pedestrians being assaulted on Hoad’s Hill. There were five reports of a white van making associated contact with them. They caused actual bodily harm injuries to head and shoulders. Please call 101 quoting 44170112584 if you have any information.’
