HAVE you ever wanted to learn to play an instrument?

Now is your chance to do just that thanks to the Gosport Solent Brass Band which is launching a new youth band.

The new group will focus on teaching young people to play an instrument and perform confidently as a group.

Rehearsals for the new band will take place at Thorngate Hall, Bury Road, Gosport, the same venue the senior band use for practice.

Band manager Matt Barnes said: ‘We are aiming to encourage children and young adults in our community to learn how enjoyable and rewarding playing in a brass band is.

‘Not many people know that their local brass band offers this for a very modest subscription.

‘Anyone can join the new group and, for a small subscription fee, they will receive their own instrument, one-to-one lessons with an experienced tutor and be given the opportunity to perform in the band’s ensemble.’

The Gosport Solent Brass Band was formed in 2011.

Mr Barnes added: ‘Gosport Solent Brass Band is committed to producing quality music and developing its players at all levels.

‘The band plays in local concerts, at civic events and competes in the national brass band championships of Great Britain as well as other local contests.

‘It has a great blend of youth and experience.’

On October 16, the band is putting on a Last Night Of The Proms show at Thorngate Hall.

Tickets for the show are available now with a raffle and free refreshments also being served at the event.
