A RENEWED planning application which residents believe will increase congestion in a road will be heard at a regulatory board meeting on Wednesday.

An application has been submitted to build five two-bedroom houses and one three-bedroom house in Camden Street, Gosport, on the site of a current industrial factory, which is occupied by boat cover and marine upholstery firm Tecsew.

Plans to build seven new dwellings were rejected at a Gosport Regulatory Board meeting in June and Councillor Roger Allen, deputy chairman of the board, suggested that the applicant, John Bland, should put in a revised application.

However, locals are still worried that six new homes would restrict parking in the area.

Dale Fletcher, of Camden Street, said: ‘There are several reasons why myself and other local residents are against the application.

‘We are worried about traffic management regarding the volume and access to the new site.

‘There are also concerns about the land to the north as it is currently the safe access to the cottages that are there.

‘Children coming in and out of the cottages would not be able to do so safely as they would exit their gardens straight onto a road

‘The new application may be for one less home but it still covers the same amount of area of land.’

Mike Baker, of Camden Terrace, added: ‘I’m quite confident that the plans will be rejected.’

Mr Bland has confirmed that a sale for the industrial site has been agreed as Tecsew is set to move to the Daedalus Enterprise Zone.

As reported by The News, permission was granted to convert The Barley Mow pub, in Ann’s Hill Road, into six new homes in July.

Mr Bland feels his application is much better equipped to serve local residents of Camden Street than the development of The Barley Mow.

He said: ‘A planning application was passed for The Barley Mow which was for seven new homes and is only providing four car parking spaces.

‘Our application is providing 11 spaces from just six homes.

‘The area is either going to be homes or a factory and it would be much better for the local residents to be the former.

‘The factory has a B2 license, which means it can run all night if it wants to.’
