YESTERDAY marked the 950th anniversary of the Battle Of Hastings and Gomer Junior School, in Gosport, took part in a day themed around this infamous date in history.

The school, in Pyrford Close, organised a walk from Stokes Bay and pupils were joined by Basil Bird, provided by My Journey, as well as a Norman solider from Histrionics, who presented an assembly to the pupils.

Georgina Mullhall, headteacher at the school, said: ‘We are working to promote a healthy lifestyle at the school.

‘We understand that not all children can walk to school, so where we set off from Stokes Bay is an ideal place and it also reduces cars for residents around the school.

‘The pupils are taking part in a lot of cross-curricular activities throughout the day.’
