SURROUNDED by a sea of red, white and blue, the Ladybirds of Gosport paid their own special patriotic tribute to the Queen.

Apart from the decorations, their special gathering to mark Her Majesty’s 90th birthday was notable for the fine spread of multi-coloured cup cakes made by Richard, the husband of long-standing member Elaine Wood.

The Ladybirds are a group of mature women who meet most Wednesday afternoons at the Bridgemary and Woodcot Community Centre, Gosport.

Usually they get together to natter, play games and go on occasional outings.

But last Wednesday 50 of them crowded into the centre to pay their own special tribute to the Queen.

Entertainment for the event was privided by Vintage Gold, a singing duo comprising Trish Trigwell and Jenny White.

They took the gathering through songs from the 1940s to the 1960s which had the party singing along with gusto. The performance was rounded off with hits made famous by Dame Vera Lynn. ‘ White Cliffs of Dover’ and ‘We’ll Meet Again’. During the event the oldest member of the group Olive, aged 94 was invited up on stage to rapturous applause.
