WE want HMS Sultan to remain.

That is what the majority of people have said in The News’ online poll.

The Ministry of Defence is looking to close the HMS Sultan in 2026 as part of its Better Defence Estate Strategy, which was announced last year.

But News readers think differently, with 88 per cent wanting to see the Royal Navy engineering training centre, in Gosport, saved.

Just 12 per cent believe it should be closed.

Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has campaigned actively since the news was announced last year and she was given support in Westminster last week from Berwick-upon-Tweed MP Anne-Marie Trevelyan.
