Council tackles litter problem with new environmental officer contract

A COUNCIL has brought in a new contract in light of its continued zero tolerance approach on littering.

Havant Borough Council has appointed EH Commercial Services Ltd to enforce litter and dog fouling enforcement functions.

The new contract will see the introduction of four full-time environmental enforcement officers equipped with body worn cameras, who will patrol the borough’s streets and public spaces. Offenders will receive fixed penalty notices for £80.

Cabinet members agreed the new contract would be awarded to East Hampshire District Council’s limited company under delegated powers for an initial 12 month period. The continued enforcement programme will operate from bases within the borough.

Residents can report environment problems such as littering, dog fouling and flytipping via the council’s website and social media platforms, as well as contacting customer services by calling (023) 9244 6019, or e-mailing [email protected].
