Hayling Island junior school hit with vomiting virus

A SCHOOL has been hit by a vomiting virus, forcing parents to keeping their children off school.

A number of pupils at Mengham Junior School on Hayling Island have been reported unwell with most classes being hit by the virus.

Most children have come from the one year group, a school newsletter sent to parents said.

One parent, who asked not to be named, told The News: ‘The school doesn’t seem overly bothered about the situation.’

Wendy Bolton, headteacher of Mengham Junior School, said the school was following the correct procedures to ensure the safety of the children.

She added: ‘A number of pupils are absent from school with parents having reported that they are unwell.

‘We are following the advice of Public Health England and asking parents to keep their children at home until they have been clear of any symptoms for 48 hours.

‘At this stage the nature of the illness of individual pupils is unknown and to speculate on that or any cause would be inappropriate.’
