LIVE donkeys and other farmyard animals have all taken part in nativity plays - but St Clare’s Church in Warren Park took it one step further.

The church recruited camels to carry the Three Wise Men and left members of the public stunned.

They are beautiful animals and why wouldn’t we want them?

Carolyn Owens

Carolyn Owens, who helped organise the event, said people didn’t believe her when she said the church was having real camels.

She said: ‘We were very lucky as we applied for a grant off the Portsmouth Dioceses and we were grateful because the camels were spectacular.

‘They are beautiful animals and why wouldn’t we want them?

‘The camels didn’t come in the church but we did have donkeys inside.

‘Once word got around, a lot of people were coming to see the camels as they were here for a while.’
