A WOMAN has issued a call to arms for Portsmouth residents to help rescue hundreds of starfish on Southsea beach.
The plea comes as a huge pile of starfish washed up on the beach yesterday due to the city feeling the effects of the stormy weather.
Holly Martin, from Hilsea has been on the beach in the last hour using buckets to collect the creatures and return them to the sea.
She said: ‘We just came for a walk down on the beach and then we came across hundreds of starfish.
‘The kind workers at South Parade Pier handed us a bucket and we must have returned about a hundred to the sea in the last half hour.
‘They are still all here, alive, so we just thought, let’s do something good for the good of our seaside city and help them out.
‘It would be great if more people could come down and help.’
Blue Reef Aquarium advised residents yesterday who come across the creatures to put them back into the sea and wash their hands afterwards.
