I am often humbled by the many exceptional women I frequently come across who are doing outstanding work, significantly contributing to our community, living out their dreams, setting a great example and inspiring us endlessly.

I want to celebrate these women!

Amba Tremain is musical director of The Urban Vocal Group (The UVG), a professional musician, session singer and songwriter.

Amba has been performing since she was five years old and attended Performing Arts School, Tring Park, from age 11 to 18.

Having grown up constantly performing, Amba had her first child at 20. She told me her child became another driving force towards pursuing her dreams.

After performing arts school, Amba became a successful musician, began writing songs and networking within the music industry.

She also became a vocal coach in and said she enjoyed teaching as much as she enjoyed gigging and that she is really proud of her students.

In 2001 Amba competed with 56,000 others in an ITV singing contest called This Is My Moment.

She went on to win the contest, along with a £150k prize pot!

In 2008 Amba and her sister Leonie featured on Eva Cassidy’s album Somewhere and in 2013 to 2014 they toured with Boy George and sang on his album.

Amba told me, ‘Everything I love about music has become my living, this wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t put myself out there.’

In 2008, Amba crossed paths with musician Charlie Fletcher who proposed the idea of The UVG, a charitable organisation.

They give free contemporary singing lessons to children. Nine years on The UVG is still going strong.

They now have more than 150 singers and are absolutely phenomenal.

Amba explained to me: ‘We help to create industry-savvy young people.

‘It’s really important to me that children come out having had the best experience they can possibly get.’

If you would like to support an extremely worthy cause I highly recommend heading to The UVG’s biggest show to date, at The Pyramids on Sunday at 7pm.

There will be 150 singers, a samba band, a house band, Marley Blandford debuting his new single, and performances from Most Wanted Street Dance School.

Go to theuvg.co.uk for show tickets, free singing lessons or to donate.
