County is near top of the solar panel chart

HAMPSHIRE is leading the way in tackling climate change, a study has found.

In research by environmental charity Green Alliance, Hampshire came in the top 10 counties for investment in the number of solar panels installed to produce electricity, and solar panels installed to produce energy for heating households.

Flick Drummond, MP for Portsmouth South, said: ‘It’s great to see Hampshire excelling in the use of electricity generated through solar and heat from solar and heat pumps.

‘By using renewable energy now, Hampshire is making a huge contribution towards the Climate Coalition’s aim to make 100 per cent clean energy within a generation.’

The news comes ahead of the Climate Coalition’s Speak Up Week of Action, which begins on Saturday.

It is part of an ongoing effort to encourage world leaders to shift to 100 per cent clean and secure energy within a generation to protect people and places from climate change.
