Fire crews had to free eight students from a lift yesterday morning after it broke down.

The service was called to Henry Cort Community College in Fareham just after 11.35am to free the pupils.

A spokesman for Fareham Fire Station said the lift was stuck between the first and ground floor and had been blamed on a mechanical fault.

He added that the students were stuck in the lift for about 15 minutes and that there were no injuries.
