It's the coldest day of the week in Portsmouth today

Drivers woke to frosted windscreens as Portsmouth's coldest day of the week started today.

After frosty conditions overnight, weathermen predicted a cloudy day with some sunny spells but said that temperatures were unlikely to climb above 9C.

The Met Office regional forecast is: ‘A cold, frosty start with most places staying dry through the day. Sometimes bright or sunny, but cloud will increase later with rain reaching Hampshire by evening. Winds mainly light northwesterly, becoming milder southwesterly later, and freshening along coasts. Maximum Temperature 9°C.

‘Tonight: Increasing evening cloud will bring periods of rain overnight, becoming heavy at times. Southerly winds will become strong near English Channel coasts. Chilly in northern counties, milder in south. Minimum Temperature 3°C.’

Predictions for the rest of the week are better, with top temperatures of 10C expected tomorrow, 12C on Friday and 14C on Saturday.
