THE work of counter-extremism officers has been praised.

Abu-Suyeb Tanzam, a Muslim community leader, has said Hampshire police running Prevent are working hard to identify potential extremists.

Mr Tanzam said: ‘I’d like to give support to the Prevent team for their hard work and their ability to identify those people.’

It comes after an inspector leading the scheme in Hampshire said more people in Portsmouth want to leave for Syria.

Insp David Knowles said he believes they may pose a risk to society when they are prevented from going.
