ALL of a council’s future meetings could be broadcast to the public.
Councillors on Portsmouth City Council debated the idea of extending coverage of the local authority’s decision-making from just full council meetings to all of the authority’s meetings during an hour-long discussion yesterday.
Councillor Luke Stubbs (Cons) proposed the motion to look at full council to look at expanding the service which was introduced in July 2015.
He said: ‘The broadcasting of full council meetings has been a success. Since it began, each meeting has been watched between 400 and 2,500 times. This is far in excess of expectations.’
Councillor Steve Hastings (Cons) agreed, stating: ‘I’m a great believer in openness and transparency. It’s a shame we don’t film more meetings.’
However, Councillor Julie Bird (Ukip) was more cautious stating: ‘I would hold fire on going live with all meetings as you may get deputations from members of the public who may not want it on camera.’
