THE SOUTH of England endured temperatures below freezing last night and forecasters are predicting another a similar night ahead.

Last night was the coldest night of the winter so far, with temperatures dropping to as low as -7C in the Midlands and -2C in London.

With winter finally creeping upon us, the Met Office predict that Portsmouth will drop to -1C in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Although the sun will be shining for the majority of Wednesday, temperatures will not exceed 6C.

And despite forecasters saying snow in some northern parts of the UK may be likely at the start of December, the chances of a white blanket falling over Portsmouth are slim.

Portsmouth City Council has released a guide on how to keep warm during cold snaps.
