Portsmouth expected to be hotter than Ibiza this weekend

Portsmouth is set for a weekend heatwave with temperatures soaring above those on the sun-soaked Spanish holiday island of Ibiza.

Following the coldest end to April in over 30 years, and a wash-out Bank Holiday for many across the UK, spring - or possibly summer - will arrive this weekend.

Temperatures of 17C are expected in Portsmouth on Saturday, and the Met Office predicts they will rise to 22C on Sunday - compared to 19C in Ibiza.

The unseasonably hot weather is thanks to high pressure becoming established and encouraging a south-easterly airstream, drawing in warm air from the Continent.

This high pressure will mean a dry-ish weekend, hot in the sun, though it may feel close and muggy towards Monday with a risk of thunderstorms.

The Met Office forceast For Portsmouth is:-

Thursday:

After another cool start a dry and sunny day should develop, with plenty of warm sunshine as winds also remain light. Maximum Temperature 19 °C.

Friday to Sunday:

Increasingly warm, with fine and sunny days for most, the sun periodically turning hazy under high cloud. There is a chance of the warmth sparking thundery showers during weekend afternoons.
