PORTSMOUTH’S BHS is set to shut up shop for the final time next week, it was announced yesterday.

Administrators to the retailers have said that 30 stores including the store in Cascade Approach are set to close on Saturday, July 30.

More than 700 staff nationwide are likely to be affected by the latest closures with many set to be made redundant as hopes of finding a buyer continue to fade.

Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw is concerned about the status of the retailer.

David Gill, Usdaw’s national officer said: ‘This is terrible news for the staff in the 30 stores affected, on top of the 20 stores that are closing tomorrow.

‘We are aware that the administrators are continuing to seek a buyer, who will hopefully be able to secure the future of the staff in the remaining stores.’

It is still unclear at this moment when the BHS unit in Fareham Shopping Centre and the unit in Westhampnett Road, Chichester will close but an announcement is expected soon.
