AS PLANES soared through the sky at a major Chinese airshow, many eyes were fixed on Portsmouth’s civic leader clad entirely in red.

The city’s Lord Mayor, Councillor David Fuller was at the international airshow in Zhuhai, southern China.

He was there on Tuesday as part of a mission with Cllr Lee Mason and Portsmouth Chinese Association chairman Albert Choi.

While the Red Arrows performed in China for the first time and the nation exhibited its stealth jets, Cllr Fuller’s red mayoral gown, gong and gold drew attention.

In a message from the country, where the trio will remain for the week, Cllr Mason said: ‘We were swamped for selfies and photos. Great reception.’

The politicians hope to attract business.
