PORTSMOUTH joined mourners from across the globe in paying tribute to those killed in this week’s Orlando massacre.

Almost 50 people were killed and another 53 injured after a heavily-armed gunman opened fire at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida — the worst mass shooting in US history.

Tonight Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower has been lit up in rainbow colours marking the atrocity. The site’s general manager Sarah Webb said it was a sign of solidarity for the LGBT community.

‘We would like to take this opportunity to send our condolences to all those affected by the tragic events this weekend,’ she added.

‘We are a proud sponsor of Portsmouth Pride and regularly hold LGBT friendly Sassy party nights. We stand in solidarity with the LGBT community at this difficult time.’
