On its website the chief forecaster said: ‘Winds will gradually ease from the west during the night, finally easing from the far south east of England around dawn on Thursday.

‘Outbreaks of rain, some of it heavy, will accompany the strong winds and will add to the difficult driving conditions.’

The warning covers most of the country, including all of Hampshire.

Yellow weather warnings mean severe weather is possible and people should plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays or disruption to day-to-day activities.
