Fans could pre-register for tickets last Thursday with the official sale starting a day later.

The gig was announced last Wednesday, with organisers saying they expected the event to sell out quickly.

The tickets were sold out by the end of Friday.

Gorillaz previously visited Portsmouth for a gig at Southsea’s Wedgewood Rooms in 2010.

The animated English band are led by musician Damon Albarn, also of Blur, and artist Jamie Hewlett.

The warm-up gig includes a show at St Albans on June 2 before their main tour later this year.
