New CCTV pictures have shown the dramatic moment a driver lost control of his car and crashed into a popular Portsmouth burger van.
The footage shows staff at Mick’s Monster Burgers in Portsdown Hill being thrown backwards as the car smashes into the front of the van.
Food, cooking oil and condiments can also be seen flying through the air.
Van owner Mick Johnsey told The News that the incident happened on Friday afternoon and it was thought the driver lost control of his car, span it round twice and accidentally accelerated into the van.
The footage also appears to show a motorcyclist being knocked off his vehicle by the car, but it is not thought either he or the driver suffered serious injuries.
Mr Johnsey said the incident was a ‘very big shock’ for staff and customers.
He said customers had been showing their support since the crash and had asked about the staff members working in the van at the time.
The damage to the van is expected to cost up to £25,000, although this may be paid for by insurance.
Staff had to close up the van for six hours on Friday while engineers fixed the gas supply.
