Stargazers in the south stand a good chance of seeing a meteor shower show tonight.
Weathermen say that skies in the region are expected to be clear at the start of a series of Orionid meteor showers which will light up the night sky over the UK during the next few weeks.
They will be at their peak tonight and in the early hours tomorrow and should remain visible, weather permitting, until November 7.
The Orionids arrive each year when Earth passes through debris left by behind by Halley’s Comet.
The meteors plummet into the Earth’s atmosphere at about 40 miles per second and from a good vantage point 10 to 20 meteors can be seen per hour.
