Anna preparing a new Channel swim challenge

A WOMAN forced to abandon her attempt to swim the English Channel in heartbreaking fashion last year is to take to the plunge and attempt the challenge again.
Anna Wardley was within sight of the French shore when currents dragged her into an exclusion area around a refugee centre last summer – but she has vowed not to hang up her goggles.
The determined 32-year-old will start her gruelling training regime in the new year and attempt the 22-mile swim for a second time in September.
Now she knows what to expect, Anna, from Village Road, Alverstoke, is determined to complete the swim.
'I put 110 per cent into it last time and when you have put so much effort into something it doesn't just go away, so I'm determined to manage it this time,' she said.
I'm just not willing to accept failure – I've already put in a year of training for my last attempt and it's just not something I'm willing to give up on.
'I learnt so much from my last swim and I'm sure this time with all the right preparation and conditions, I can do it.'
Anna will start her training early next year, when she will go to the Lake District and practise swimming in Lake Windermere and Coniston Water.
Then as soon as the weather is warmer, she will get back into her taxing training programme at Stokes Bay.
Anna will have to get up at 4.30am every day to hit the sea for four hours before work. She will then either run, cycle or swim laps at a swimming pool for a couple of hours after work.
She was just four miles from France when she abandoned her swim last August because tides were pulling her into water in an exclusion zone around the Sangatte refugee centre.
When Anna got back on British land she was rushed to hospital and kept in overnight because she was in hypothermic shock and had pulled and torn muscles in her shoulders.
She raised £14,000 for The Phillip Green Memorial Trust and The Samaritans, with her last attempt and will again be raising money for good causes.
