Anoosh's visit from Iran leaves pupils spellbound

Children were spell-bound by the evocative sounds of the sitar as eastern culture was introduced to local schools.
Leading musician Anoosh Jahanshahi was flown over from Tehran in Iran by Portsmouth Grammar School for a music and art project exploring Persian culture and the poetry of 14th century poet Hafez.
During his stay in the city Mr Jahanshahi also visited Milton Park Junior School in Portsmouth where his playing inspired pupils to move and sound like hyenas, peacocks and snakes.
James Priory, assistant headteacher at the grammar school, said: 'We wanted to introduce children to the culture of Iran which is generally lost in stories of conflict.
'The reaction from pupils has been a mix of curiosity and recognition.'
Workshops with Mr Jahanshahi also took place at Portsmouth Grammar School's junior school and he performed at St Thomas's Cathedral earlier this week.
