IT HAS only been going for one day, but already Portsmouth's major employers have signed up to make our Blue Day a success.
Staff from Portsmouth City Council took to the Guildhall steps yesterday to back The News drive to make Friday, April 4 a day where readers show their support for Pompey as they prepare for the FA Cup semi-final.
And underneath the Spinnaker Tower employees donned blue outfits to show they would also be supporting the charity event.
We want as many readers as possible to get involved in Blue Day – on the eve of the Wembley adventure – by dressing up or decorating their offices and homes in Pompey blue.
As well as a show of support for Pompey, Blue Day will also raise cash for the Tom Prince Cancer Research Fund, set up in memory of a 15-year-old fan who died of bone cancer.
Waving their Blue Day posters, council employees said they were looking forward to celebrating the club's magic cup run.
Danielle Eberhardt, a 29-year-old events officer, lives in Fratton Road and can hear the roar of the Pompey crowd on matchdays.
She said: 'I love the idea of this day because it means the whole community can get behind the team and the city.
'It's great for the confidence of Portsmouth to have a high-profile match like this and it can only help the Prince family with their fund-raising.
'A lot of people have given money to the cancer fund before and we know how hard they work.'
Ben Wright, a 23-year-old development officer from Havelock Road in Southsea, added: 'I am a keen Pompey fan and will be trying to get tickets for the semi-final.
'I don't get to the games as often as I would like but this kind of event really raises the profile.'
At the Spinnaker Tower visitor services manager Nigel Hosier said his staff would be committed to making Blue Day a big event.
He said: 'We are at the centre of the city and it's great to see companies and groups signing up.
'Supporting Pompey is something we can all share and I hope others will help raise as much as possible.'
