It's not the usual sailors' attire.
But it wasn't a normal day for the crew on board HMS Illustrious as the ship successfully passed its sea training assessment.

Over the past month, the ship has been carrying out exercises in aviation, warfare, seamanship, engineering, damage control and firefighting.

The captain of HMS Illustrious, Steve Chick, said: 'The ships' company has risen to the challenges with characteristic enthusiasm and determination.

'We have worked hard and gained a fully deserved, sound, satisfactory overall assessment.'

Petty Officer Tom Burnham added: 'It has been challenging and difficult at times, but it's gone quickly.

'It's a relief to finish.'

Illustrious will now conduct more specialised training on Nato exercise Joint Warrior in the North Sea.

Towards the end of October HMS Illustrious will visit Liverpool.

And in November Illustrious will pay a visit to London in order to take part in the Remembrance Sunday commemorations.
