CHARITIES picked up huge cheques through cash raised from a navy show.
HMS Sultan Summer Show, which took place in June, raised thousands of naval and local charities.
The Commanding Officer of HMS Sultan, Commodore Al Rymer, presented the cheques to the charities and groups.
Among those to benefit from the money were the Gosport War Memorial Hospital, Stubbington Ark, Sultan VCC, Harbour Cancer Support, 9th Gosport Scout Group, Friends of Gosport & Fareham Homeless, Gosport & Fareham Inshore Rescue, and the Down's Syndrome Education Trust.
The total amount of money raised over the show weekend was £56,000 – the most collected in over 30 years.
Commodore Rymer said: 'HMS Sultan's Summer Show is all about promoting the Royal Navy in the local community and raising funds to support good works and it was fantastic to see so many visit us over the weekend.
'I am proud that the success of the show means we are able to make donations to Royal Navy and local charities alike.'
