Re-enactment specialist Stan Timbrell came under attack from an army of sword-wielding youngsters during a museum's special Knight School event.
More than 800 youngsters attended the day-long event at the Royal Armouries Museum, based at Fort Nelson on Portsdown Hill.
They got to have a chance at honing their sword-swinging skills, as well as watching an expert archer in action before having a crack themselves.
The medieval day marked the end of a fun-packed summer holiday programme at the fort.
n There will be more events for children during the October half-term. The museum is open seven days a week and is free. For more information call (01329) 233734.
