A GREAT-GRANDMOTHER who attended the FA Cup Final in 1939 is delighted that her love of Pompey is still being passed down through the generations.
Vera Warden has been a Pompey fan all her life, after growing up in a family of die-hard fans.

She went to the club's last FA Cup Final appearance in 1939 when she was 18 – one of the few Pompey games she ever attended.

Now, three generations later, a new clutch of young fans will follow in their great-grandmother's footsteps when they go to Wembley on May 17. Sean Hewett, 10, and seven-year Callum Hewett are among the lucky Pompey fans to have tickets for the big game.

'It was lovely to go up and see it all,' she said. 'I remember everyone going mad and jumping up in the air when they scored, I got hit on the head! I enjoyed it.

Mrs Warden, 87, of Medina Road, Cosham, attended the match with her family and her fiance. Now she is getting ready to watch the cup final with Cardiff at home on the television.

Mrs Warden watches as many games as she can on TV, while her great-grandsons go to all the games.

Although she would have jumped at the chance to go to Wembley, the demand for tickets has left her without one.

But she is pleased that the family's latest Pompey fanatics have the same opportunity as she did.

'I am very glad I have got two great-grandsons to go and see it,' she said. 'I am proud that they are going. It's all in the family.

'I would have loved to have gone to say I have seen the 1939 final and this year's final, but it's just one of those things.'

Sean and Callum have also joined the Junior Blues playing football on a regular basis.
