When freelance photographer Hab Rahman uploaded his moody photos of Portsmouth in the fog, he found an unexplained object loitering in the background.
'I didn't notice it when I took the picture,' said Mr Rahman, 28, of London Road, North End. 'But then I looked a bit closer and zoomed in. It's a bit weird really, it's quite freaky.
'I've never really believed in UFOs. I'm not really sure what to make of this.'
Mr Rahman took the picture where the Tricorn Centre once stood, a site which is now a car park near Commercial Road. He took the photo just after midnight last Thursday.
Hilary Porter from the British Earth and Aerial Mysteries Society based in Farnborough, said Hampshire has a lot of UFO sightings and believes this one to be real.
She said: 'It would be very difficult to fake that photo and the UFO is at a tilt, which is the way they normally fly. You don't normally see that sort of UFO over this country, we generally get orange orbs, so the photographer who got this picture has got quite a coup.'
But others are more sceptical.
Professor Bob Nichol is one of the top astrophysicists from the University of Portsmouth's Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation.
He said: 'There's a very good chance that somewhere in the universe there are alien lifeforms. But sometimes my healthy scepticism takes over.

'This picture could be real but the question I ask is that if a big spaceship was to come down over Portsmouth, why would only one person get a picture of it? Surely with mobile phones, everyone would be snapping at it.'
The Ministry of Defence would not comment on individual sightings and could not check if there were any aircraft in the vicinity at the time.
An MoD spokesperson said: 'The MoD examines reports solely to establish whether UK airspace may have been compromised by hostile or unauthorised military activity.
'Unless there is evidence of a potential threat, there is no attempt to identify the nature of each sighting reported.'

it's obvious what it is - the transport to take the pompey team to their 39th premier league game, wherever in the universe it may be...

It's a bit surprising to have a zooming so detailed like that in the fog, but, it looks definitely like an UFO...

Next UFO will be Vincent Clerk against UK....

I very much doubt its a UFO, it really does strike me as all too convenient when I see UFO pictures where the ship just happens to look like the stereotypical "flying saucer" that is so generic of early hollywood B Movies.

I would wager that in the unlikely event that aliens do travel thousands of light years across the galaxy from a highly advanced civilisation to our planet, they probably wont arrive in cliche silver saucers, rather than that would appear with something totally (if you will pardon the pun) alien to us.

This is definitely a fake, I was on the same uni course as Hab (He didn't graduate the same year as me due to his lack in commitment).

He was partial to using Photoshop to make fake images and get himself noticed, it appears as though he is desperate for fame!

Honestly, some people will never be satisfied. A clear shot of a classic flying disc. Since when was scepticism healthy? I thought it was the nature of science to be curious, not sceptical. Investigate first, then decide if it's fake or not. What is it about those who seek to debunk? Why do they always bother us, haunting the media or YouTube whenever a UFO "flap" occurs?

Nine times out of ten, when a person doesn't notice they've snapped a ufo until afterwards when they look at the photo, it's because it's a bird flying by. Birds catch the light in weird ways and -- when frozen in mid-flight -- can not only look metallic, but very much like sleek, saucer-like craft. I've seen hundreds of pics just like this. I'd bet my head that it's a bird. I'm a healthy sceptic; I don't believe we are being visited by intelligent beings from other worlds, but I sure wish it were true. And I'm not against researching such things to find out one way or the other, because I believe I could be wrong. Or not. Haven't seen anything to convince me yet. Certainly not this image.

Im reserving judgment on this photo until i can better analyze it. It does look interesting, it would help if there were other corroborating photos. http://www.ufo-reports.com

Most of the people who commented here about UFO traveling from another starr system to go to Texas or anywhere else haven't a clue about UFO history.
In fact since the 2nd World War massive craft, over a mile long, "mother ships" have been reported including being reported, with small craft visually and on radar, coming and going from these large ships. I have a close friend who worked for the Department Of Atomic Energy and he witness a massive mother ship and small "scout" craft right on a radar scope while Jets were chasing it.

Of course, if this is a saucer, it is not the main craft.

In Texas the craft was reported to be massive. One of the first pilots to the X-15 Rocket was told to look for UFOs, but they found him.
Many times UFO were seen leaving and going back into the oceans. We have bases in other countries we also have hidden bases. Always when skeptics and scientist make this argument they know full well of the possibilities of small scout craft.

Dam it we have them also in space that it how we went to the moon and the space station. . This position has been predictable and used as a distraction from the very beginning of UFO history. It didn't hold water then and it doesn't now.

Ok.. call me a cynic but if it was foggy that night (which it obviously was if you look at the street light), how come the "ufo" is so clear?? surely the fog would make it slightly more distorted than it is..
I would love to believe but I'm sorry even i could mock up a better fake than this and i've never used photoshop
