SNUGGLED up contentedly on the sofa with his loving owner, it is hard to believe that this is the same dog that only weeks before had been abandoned on the streets, underweight and unloved.
The grey-and-white greyhound was homeless, malnourished and covered in scratches when he was found abandoned by his owner on Portsdown Hill.

He was rescued and taken to Portsmouth City Dog Kennels in August and, after appearing in The News, has fo
und his perfect partner.

Blue was one of eight dogs who had been abandoned during the bank holiday weekend, but only weeks on all have found new homes.

Carol Plumbly, lead kennel hand at the centre in Regent Street, Landport, said: 'Blue was in a bad way. What is so special is that I thought he would take a long time to home.'

But as soon as new owner Sue Marks saw the dog's picture in the paper, she knew Blue, who she now calls Bluey, was the dog for her.

She said: 'I just saw him and I knew I had to have him. It has been a bad year for me I lost a Labrador to cancer, in August my uncle died and before Christmas I had a cat put to sleep, and in June my lovely Yorkie died

'But when I saw Bluey he just stole my heart.'

Sue, 55, visited the kennels the following morning and by the weekend Bluey had settled in to his new home.

The mother-of-two said: 'He is a right Sir. He sleeps between my husband and me. He has brought us so much joy since we had him.

'How anyone could have dumped him I don't know.'

Carol added: 'Sue looked at him and I knew that they were soulmates. It was one of those moments that you know the dog and owner are right for each other.

'She took him on a sleep over and we met the family.' It was as if he had always been there.'

The kennels received about 60 calls after the article appeared in The News. There were about 25 dogs in the kennels after the bank holiday weekend, and now there are just seven who need homes.

'Every dog has a story and it is so nice when it is a happy ending,' said Carol.

nice to hear he has gone to a good home, rescued dogs seem to turn into very loyal pets.

I have a one that was a stray, roaming around our street for some time, he is a collie cross, profoundly deaf, but has turned into one of the most loyal dogs that I have ever had.

I have now had him for over two and a half years and he litteraly comes with me everywhere.

The only thing with him is that he wants to eat anything and everything, I am sure that he will never get over the feeling of 'where is my next meal coming from' - but he is great!
