But after The News stepped in and a replacement passport was arranged for express delivery with days to spare, Claire and new husband Marcus Wynne were able to enjoy their big day and then take their first-ever trip abroad together on their honeymoon
.
Claire, of Woodthorpe Gardens, Sarisbury Green, had never travelled out of Britain before because of long-term health problems. The furthest she had ever been was Blackpool.
She suffers from a rare brain condition – idiopathic intracranial hypertension – which has involved years of painful treatments.
And after spending a few days in Belgium for their honeymoon, the couple have been bitten by the travel bug.
They have now booked a trip to Malta, and later in the year they are planning to fly to the other side of the world by visiting Australia.
The 23-year-old said: 'Everything went really smoothly after the passport came though, but it was pretty short notice to book anything, so we chose Brussels for a four-day trip.
'We took the Eurostar first class through to Brussels, and it was great. It was lovely to be able to kick back and relax.
'From only ever having been as far as Blackpool before this, now we're totting up all the places we want to go to.'
And now Claire's excited to be taking her first-ever flight.
'I am really nervous about it, but I am really looking forward to going on a plane,' she said.
Claire's and Marcus' plans had been thrown into chaos when it emerged that her passport had accidentally been sent to the wrong address.
The Identity and Passport Service refused to comment on individual cases, but visited the address where the passport was incorrectly delivered in order to retrieve it.
In cases such as this, if the original passport cannot be found it is cancelled to prevent it being used fraudulently.
The couple were married at the Holiday Inn in Titchfield last month.
The mother-of-two joked: 'Now I've got to send my passport back to get the name changed.'
