New boat brings a good name to nature reserve
A NEW boat has been launched in Langstone Harbour as part of the RSPB's nature reserve.
The name of the boat is the very apt The Good Tern, which was the winning entry in a competition run in support of the bird charity.
Winner John Underwood, 64, a retired solicitor, was delighted at scooping the prize for his suggestion, which included lunch with Chris Corrigan, RSPB regional director, followed by a guided tour of the reserve, and five islands covered with terns, gulls and wading birds.
Access to the RSPB Langstone Harbour is restricted to allow birds to breed, feed and roost in an undisturbed state – so Mr Underwood's opportunity to visit the area, which is normally off limits to the public, was a rare one.
The competition was open to all RSPB volunteers via the charity's volunteer magazine Involve.
