Pedal power will be converted to Blue2Day cash when Southsea traders back our fund-raising campaign.
Albert Road is to become a haven for two-wheeled fun during Get On Your Bike To Albert Road Day on Sunday.

And when organisers heard that we were organising Blue2Day – the follow up to our successful Blue Day in aid of the Tom Prince Cancer Trust – they jumped at the chance to get on board.

At the cycling event, people will be encouraged to cycle to Albert Road and enjoy events including competitions for best bike and fancy dress bike.

There will also be a 'Tour de Albert' around the road with money being raised for the Tom Prince Cancer Trust and the British Heart Foundation.

We've named Friday May 16 – the day before the FA Cup Final – as Blue2Day, when individuals and groups will wear blue and raise money for the trust.

And the seven days in the run-up to the big day make up Blue Week, which will see various events take place across the city, including the Albert Road day.

Organiser Ian Parmiter, who owns Parmiter's antiques shop in Albert Road, said: 'When we organised the day we had planned to just raise money for the British Heart Foundation but when we heard about Blue Week we just had to get involved so are now doing it for the trust as well.

'Blue Day was such a great event last time and so many people support the trust, it's such a good cause, so we just had to be involved.

'All the shops will be open on the day from midday to 5pm and we're going to have a street entertainers as well.

'It's going to be a great day and we want to see as many people there on their bikes as possible. We're trying to show people you can get anywhere in Portsmouth quickly on a bike, nothing is that far away.'
