A PHOTOGRAPHER who has worked with steel workers and Brazilian street children is appealing to servicemen to hand over their own snaps.
Julian Germain wants current or ex-service personnel to donate pictures for an exhibition about life in the forces.

They will take pride of place at the Aspex gallery in Gunwharf Quays in October.

The theme of this year's biennial is Memory of
Fire: The War of Images and Images of War.

Mr Germain, 46, is looking not only for dramatic shots of conflict zones but also quirky mementos that shed light on how people live through deployments.

He also wants pictures from those who stay at home while their loved ones are away.

He said: 'The pictures might have been made for fun or they may be an important memento of a special person, place or time.

'It might be a single picture or a collection of many photos made over the years.'

The photographs do not have to be organised or stored on any particular format.

Mr Germain has exhibited in Portsmouth before – about Fratton man Charles Snelling.

Photos can be posted to Jude Bennett, the exhibitions co-ordinator at Aspex. The address is Service Personnel Images, Aspex, The Vulcan Building, Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth PO1 3BF.
