Historic yacht the Lively Lady is within touching distance of coming home after an incredible two-year voyage round the world.
Yesterday the boat arrived in Guernsey, where preparations were being made for the final home stretch to Portsmouth.

On Saturday a flotilla will sail out to meet the yacht – which has visited every continent and ocean on her amazing trip – including one boat with 12 youngsters who have taken part in the trip.

They will then sail past Southsea Castle and along the seafront where they will be greeted by a cheering crowd of those who have been involved in the project, relatives, well-wishers and News readers who have been following the voyage.

Alan Priddy, project mastermind and skipper, said: 'It will be a real thrill for all of us to sail in to Portsmouth on Saturday, accompanied by HMS Mersey and the rest of the flotilla.

'It's a great way to bring an amazing project to a close and I can't wait.

'The real highlight for us though will be to see all the people who've supported us and read about our adventures in The News cheering us home from the seafront at Southsea Castle or the waterfront at Gunwharf Quays.'

People who want to witness Lively Lady's victorious homecoming will be able to see her glide past Southsea Castle at 11am and come in to Gunwharf Quays shortly after 12.30pm.

The youths on board for the final leg are Ben Sumner, 16, Jay Williams, 22, Lauren Harris, 17 and Vicky Henton, 17.

Vicky said: 'I feel really privileged to have been chosen to be on board for this final leg.'
