A SOUTHAMPTON fan who runs a Portsmouth pub has betrayed his club loyalties – by having the Pompey crest tattooed on his leg.
Devoted Saint Pete Spake had the club badge inked on his left leg after a dare from his pub's darts team.
Pete, 63, runs the Artillery Arms pub in Hester Road, Milton, just minutes from Fratton Park.
And many of his regulars were on hand yesterday to watch the dad-of-seven go through the two-hour ordeal at the Touch of Ink tattoo parlour in Kingston Road.
Speaking afterwards, Pete said he had no regrets about getting the two-inch emblem etched on his leg.
He said: 'I'm originally from Southampton but moved to Portsmouth two years ago.
'Most of the lads in the pub are Pompey fans so there's always a bit of banter between us.
'One day some guys in the darts team said they would give £100 to charity if I wore a Pompey shirt for a week but I said, "raise £500 and I'll have the club crest tattooed on me".
'That was only two weeks ago and they have gone well past £500 already. They're up to £650 and it's going up all the time.
'When I offered to do it, I thought the lads would raise the money but I wasn't expecting them to do it so quickly.
'The Pompey fans in the pub will love seeing the emblem on my leg but I don't think my mates back in Southampton will feel the same way – I might not tell them about it.
'Some of my kids are Saints fans, too, so I'm not quite sure what they're going to think of this.
'But I don't regret it at all – even if it means I can't wear shorts in Southampton now.'
Pete has also been bought a Pompey mug by one of his punters on the local darts team.
And come Cup Final day, he will be supporting the blues with a decorated pub and big screens for everyone to watch the game.
The money raised from the tattoo pledge will go towards The Mary Rose School, a special school in Portsmouth for children with learning difficulties.
